Do You Pursue Your Heart’s Desire?

I was reading mommasunshine’s blog earlier tonight. Her post about love not making sense got me to thinking.
I don’t have the best track record when it comes to love but I do have some great memories and two wonderful children and all because I listened to my heart instead of my head.
My father would tell me that I was “in love with love.” He was right to a certain degree. When I meet someone and there is an immediate chemistry I tend to let my heart and my emotions lead the way.
The very first time my father met my ex husband he told me afterwards, “there is something inherently wrong with
him, I don’t like him.” As it turned out, he was right. But, if I had listened to him I would have missed out on a relationship with a man who was, for the majority of our marriage the love of my life. I would have never had the two beautiful children I had with him and all the wonderful memories.
If we are to get what we want out of life aren’t we to follow our heart’s desire? If we allow our head to interfere, we start throwing up obstacles. Before you know it we are creating fears and building anxiety instead of enjoying the opportunity that is staring us in the face.
And, I believe in NEVER passing up an opportunity! Even if the possibility of having my heart broken exists.
I’m not saying we should be stupid. If some guy is hitting you or mistreating you, the head has to come into play at some point. If you choose to give your heart to someone and they mishandle it then it is time to get practical and give him his walking papers.
It isn’t called “matters of the heart” for nothing. The guy I eventually fall for may not look good on paper but as long as it feels good to me and he is good to me that is all I care about. How about you?
