Weighing in with the other women here. I still find the term irritating, and unnecessary. A 40 year old man dating a 30 year old woman doesn't raise an eyebrow; in fact it's considered quite normal. Reverse the genders, and society needs to label the behavior. How silly.

Older, younger, same age - what difference does any of it make if we are compatible with our partners in the ways that matter to us?

And certain aspects of one's private life are never (appropriately) shared with a child, in particular a teenager.

While I may bristle at the term "cougar," I'm all for the freedom to enjoy whomever you find sexually appealing, where the pleasure is mutual and consensual. And there are plenty of advantages to going a bit younger in partner (when you're a woman). It's a matter of energy level that matches up quite nicely.

I'm with CJ, watched it once and that was enough for me. The show is written by men and what do men know about "cougars" or any woman for that matter.

I thought her childish, the things she said to her teenage son I would never entertain saying to mine. The scene where she is giving a blow job and her son walks in was way over the top. And her insecurity over her male neighbor and his dating younger women was insulting.

A mature, secure woman could give a damned who her neighbor is dating.

From what I saw she was not a representative of most women my age who have dated younger men. Like CJ, I give it another chance. Hopefully the character has grown up a bit and learned that discussing her sex life with her teenager is a wee bit odd.

*sigh* I guess I'm gonna have to watch it again. I watched ONE episode and was thoroughly disgusted with it. Courtney makes a great Cougar, but in the episode I watched she really came off as immature, flighty and just down-right dumb, and not in a "what-a-great-comedy" way, but in a "pu-lease, give me a break" way. (I blame the writers.) Maybe I just caught a bad episode, but I was under-impressed with what I saw that night. However, since you like it, I'll give it another go-round and see if perhaps the one I caught was not representative of the show as a whole.

OMG that clip is hilarious! I popped over to youtube and watched a few other clips from the show and it looks awesome. Courtney Cox makes 'Cougar' looks oh so good. I think the term is growing me on me too!

[...] Now two years into my divorce, I must admit the term is growing on me. In part this stems from me being more confident in my skin - I feel capable, beautiful, and entitled to make my own choices (in the bedroom and in life). The more I think about the predator I’ve been compared to, the more I see it as a compliment. After all, she’s sleek, she’s powerful, she can take care of herself and her own needs, and gosh darnit, she purrrrrrs when she wants! (read more here) [...]
