Tiger Woods Affair: Did Elin Woods Over-React?

Elin Woods teed off
By now you’ve all heard about Tiger Woods and his car accident. Funny how a celebrity car accident can cause the Internet rumor mill to go crazy.
I’ve been reading and researching for a blog post for my site at About.com. And I have to say this is one of the most interesting celebrity “car accidents” to come along in a long time.
What I find interesting is the reaction from Tiger’s wife Elin to the news that her husband is possibly having an affair. A bit irrational in my opinion!
Never “been there, done that”
First I have to admit to never being faced with such a situation but, please isn’t there something better to do at 2am than scratch your husband’s eyes out? Say sleep for instance!
Call me level headed but there are better ways to deal with the news that your husband may be involved with another woman. Then again, you could call me insensitive for thinking one should not go off the wall at such news.
I’m a “take a step back” kinda woman. One who has to do some investigating
and get all her ducks in a row before putting any stock in rumors. Once my ducks are in a row and I find there is an affair, there still won’t be any face scratching or golf clubs involved when I confront my partner.
A woman scorned
Like I’ve already said though, this is not something I’ve been faced with. Who knows, actually living it might turn me into a golf club toting, scorned woman from hell. It might put me in the mood to kick some ass!
All this reading and research and scratching my head over Elin Woods reaction started me thinking about you women out there who have been through this.
Walk a mile in her shoes
- What would I do if I found myself in your shoes?
- What did you do when you found out your husband was having an affair?
- Did you go for a weapon or did you step back and get your ducks in a row before reacting?
- Is over-reacting to news of an affair the typical reaction?
Since none of us have any idea what her marriage was like or what she knew or didn’t know, we cannot project what is “over-reaction”. It is nearly impossible to have affairs with 10 women without a few red flags going off. She probably had some idea prior to the car accident.
I was in the exact same situation as Elin and reacted very similarly. When things are so bad that you know there is no chance at recovering the relationship, the only thing left is to walk…and hopefully with a plan.
Who knows what went on at 2am? Did he lie about where he was and when he was coming home? Did she follow him earlier to his tryst? Did he call her another woman’s name? THere are any number of things that could have been the catalyst to her wanting to throw golf clubs at him. Keep in mind, this was an ENORMOUS betrayal…of trust, of love, of promises, of vows, of keeping his family together. I can easily see her losing it!
Interesting post. We cannot really tell what happened that night to say that Elin over reacted during their fight. The people involved in the incident are the only ones who can bring light to this mystery.
